What is the Free Choice Programme?

The Kota Gede Free Choice program is an on-site workshop program for the Second-Semester TU Delft Master Student (from Architecture and Urbanism). This year, the Studio Globalization offers the case of KotaGede in Indonesia. In this case, the student will be dealing with the issue of Post Disaster urban renewal project. Kota Gede city was hit by a devastating earthquake of 5.9 Richter scale on 27 May 2006. The city which has a long history that dated back to 17th century was listed as the World Monument Funds as one of the 100 Most Endangered Sites. After the earthquake, parts of this culturally rich city were destroyed.

In the on-site workshop the students will visit the site and work together to produce an urban renewal master plan for the city. In the end of the programme, the students are expected to produce an urban renewal master plan for the city of KotaGede.

This program is opened also for Universitas Gadjah Mada students, although only limited on the on-site workshop program and no credit points. And only 10 students will be accepted. Priority will be given to the Graduate students (MPKD, MDKB, S2) and senior level of undergraduate students (Architecture and PWK). There are 21 master students from TU Delf with 12 nationalities will participate in this program.  Six of them are urbanism and the rest are architecture and interior program students.
