Prof. Dr. M. Baiquni, MA is professor in Faculty of Geography, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). He was graduated from UGM in field of Hydrology (Bachelor of Science) and Geography (Doctorandus), then from Institute of Social Studies Den Haag for Master of Arts in Development Studies and from UGM in sandwich with Utrecht University The Netherlands for Doctor in Geography. He was an NGO activist in the Institute for Rural Technology Development (LPTP), URBAN Forum, IDEAS (Institute of Development And Environment Studies), INSIST (Indonesian Society for Social Transformation), KALAM Ecovillage Community.
In 1996 he started his career as lecturer and in 2013 he was appointed as professor in Faculty of Geography UGM. He was former Director of Center for Tourism Studies, Head of Magister and Doctoral Program in Tourism Studies, Head Department of Development Geography, and Chairperson of FORPIMGEO. He also active at national policy level, serves as ad hoc-advisory board in ministries such as: Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Education and Culture and also Special Region Government of Yogyakarta and Sleman Regency. His research interest covers several areas such as: innovative leadership and public policy, regional development planning, environmental management, heritage conservation, community development, sustainable livelihood, sustainable tourism development, archipelago development, sustainable development goals. He works at grassroot level as painting artist and batik creative artworks.
