Heritage Map On Railway Track Losari Coffee Plantation—Semarang Old Town

Introduction

Railway route along Losari village to Semarang Old Town is rich in existing heritage, i.e. cultural landscape, natural heritage to manmade heritage, local custom, social value system and many more. Unfortunately, most of the existing heritage have been left unknown even just scattered as if waiting for their extinction. In fact if they can be accessed and appreciated by the community and well managed, not only will those heritage be saved, but also will increase the quality of life of surrounding community.

Railway route along Losari village to Semarang Old Town is also a heritage. However it is needed for its existence to be innovatively brought to life therefore it can give good benefit to local people’s daily life, as for tourism development context.

As a preliminary effort of heritage conservation, an effort of cultural landscape, natural and cultural heritage distribution mapping is needed, so that it is possible to know about its existence and its link with others. The mapping result needs to be attractively presented in media such as printing or audio visual/website, so that it will be accessible for anyone and will invite appreciation and willingness to visit.

Objectives

  1. to gradually make a Heritage Map in areas along railway route between Losari village to Semarang Old Town, in interregional macro map along the route and micro area.
  2. to promote those areas through mapping realized into printed materials, audio-visual, and website.
  3. the making of this innovative heritage map will become a model in making other heritage maps in Central Java Province

Benefits of the Project

This project will result in “Heritage Map” that will be very useful for:

  1. Documentation of cultural heritage potentials scattered along railway route from Losari to Semarang Old Town
  2. Guide for tourists
  3. Development of natural-cultural heritage tourism planning in the future
  4. Educating souvenirs
  5. Accelerating the growth of tourism industry in West Java Province
